I am looking for information on creating a pyramid proportional to the Giza Pyramid. 9th grade students were given the proportion 7:11, and I was very impressed with the resources they chose to use and their desire for accuracy.
There are 3 major pyramids at Giza: those of: Khufu, Kafre, and Menkaure (and a number of smaller ones); but I believe that the proportions and incline are shared by all three. You can get some very good information at the NOVA website that cover its 1997 film on the pyramids: NOVA Online/Pyramids—The Inside Story There is also some newer stuff on NOVA's beta site.
EDSITEment also has a lesson on the pyramids Pyramids: Monuments with a Message, that references this website and provides addition activities, including one on measurement in Activity 2.
Our 9th Grade Ctr is creating a cross curriculum unit on Egypt. I gave the project of creating a pyramid with no real directions after WESTEST, to learn how different team's thought process worked. I learned much from the students and hope to expand on it using Common Core Standards.
