Greetings!

Preparing for PD sessions at my district and was curious if anyone has done work on any tie-in between Thinkfinity and CSCOPE?

Thanks in advance for learning with me. You are the best.

Such a great idea!  CSCOPE is widely used.  If Thinkfinity activities/lessons were linked to CSCOPE lessons we would ALL be better off!!!

As I look closely at CScope, there is NO technology integrated. At Sheldon ISD, we have done some limited technology integration. The ELA department is having their students use laptops to TYPE their writing assignments instead of hand writing them. Our science department will be using Voice Thread to podcast in January rather than creating posters to describe science concepts.

    Hi mdntoday,

I am not familiar with CSCOPE.  Is this the correct URL http://www.cscope.us/index.html?  Is the use of the curriculum materials free?  It appeared from my brief view of this site, that I could only download sample lessons.  Can you tell me more how CSCOPE and Thinkfinity would work together?

    Thanks,

    Lynne

lhoffman4 -- CScope is purchased curriculum and extremely expensive. However, it is wonderful! Our kids have made great strides AND school is fun again. The "Engage" activities really tie the intended learning to the real world of the students. It will take several years before our scores skyrocket, but I do expect to see that happen. Our district has implemented CScope grades K-12.

Thanks for the information.  I'm glad you have found a great tie-in between CScope and Thinkfinity.  As other school districts have funds for purchasing curriculum, this is definitely a good recommendation and may be chosen by school districts.  It's always helpful to know what purchased curriculum works well with additional free resources.  I appreciate you prompt response and sharing this idea.

CSCOPE is actually a curriculum management tool, as opposed to a curriculum. There are some excellent exemplar lessons based on the 5E model, but teachers/schools/districts use whatever they choose as the actual curriculum.

I think the very best aspects of CSCOPE are the vertical alignment and Year At a Glance components. They really help the pacing and ensure that all TEKS are covered at the appropriate grade level.

        Sharon:

Thanks so much for clarifying the intent of C-Scope.  I know you and I have had this discussion previously, but so many schools who have adopted C-Scope are using it as a prescribed curriculum and do not want to incorporate any other resources into it.  The affinity between Thinkfinity and C-Scope is a perfect marriage.

An example of a perfect tie in with one of the Math 2 lessons (YAG.) that I found in the overview of sample curriculum focus found on the C-Scope webpage http://www.cscope.us/samples.html was one from Illuminations.

        See below:

It just takes a brief minute for the teachers using C-Scope to go to Thinkfinity.org and put in the search engine their topic and be handed on a "silver platter" an interactive, a video, a podcast, an activity sheet or an E-sheet to help them integrate technology into that Lesson and to create motivation for learning among the students.

        Sharon,

Although CScope may be designed as a curriculum management system, it is in reality, the required district curriculum for grades K-12. Teachers must request and receive approval before amending the curriculum. I am still working on technology integration pieces for the curriculum, and have had several middle and high school teachers successfully petition for inclusion in the CScope curriculum. I am still working on this -- I hope to encourage more and more integration as time goes on.

In my CSCOPE IFD it says, "Instructors are encouraged to supplement, and substitute resources, materials, and activities to differentiate instruction to address the needs of learners.  The Exemplar Lessons are ONE approach to teaching and reaching the Performance Indicators and Specificity in the Instructional Focus Document for the unit."  I see CSCOPE activities that were copied from old, wonderful AIMS activities.  The AIMS activities have better, more interesting graphics for the students.  Some of the CSCOPE activities are great, but I modify to improve them using techniques I have learned from training I have been to.  I have used Thinkfinity this year along with CSCOPE.

Thanks for the great training and for Thinkfinity.
