livescience ran an article last week titles: Next Generation: 5 Ways Science Classes Will Change. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) were released in April 2013 and aim to improve US students' performance in STEM. Some critics, however, claim that that NGSS dumb down science education while others like the NGSS' emphasis on science skills.
I am open on this question. However, whether adopted/implemented or not, consideration of NGSS seems to bring about positive discussion among teachers. I am associated with an NSF project (Teachers Helping Teachers Teach Inquiry Science: Just ASK) which is inviting teachers and teachers of teachers to share lesson notes and videos and to discuss lessons in terms of the the relationship to NGSS.
