You've heard the expression, "take time to smell the roses"? Well, today I took the time to stop and admire a family of ducks. I was on my way home from the grocery store when I saw a group of ducklings following mama duck in the crosswalk, I parked the car and with camera in hand quietly approached. As I was preparing to take a photo, I heard a bit of a commotion and looked back across the street. Apparently daddy duck had gone back for a straggler, or two. Unfortunately, one of the ducklings fell into the sewer. I was standing there looking to see what could be done as the ducks were pacing and quacking loudly. A city employee from the water works department happened to stop. He was able to lift the grate from the drainage area and with the help of a couple of passersby, rescued the duckling. When joined with the family, they all waddled away toward the lake and, I hope, to safety. All in all, it was about 15 or 20 minutes of time. My groceries, were fine, but in the 90 degree Florida heat, one doesn't usually take the time to stop. Today I am glad I did.
How precious! Thank you for sharing your story and your photo, Jeanne. It made me smile.
Perhaps others have stories to share here, photos are always welcome even videos if they are posted on YouTube and embedded here, that just make you smile. We all like a refreshing break from the seriousness of work and life.
Take a moment to think about a heart-warming story like Jeanne's family of ducks, a funny story that happened in your classroom (kids say and do the funniest things), or one of those moments in life that just made you smile.
Everyone has a story, what's yours?
