Students are now in their summer break, and teachers everywhere are cognizant of summer learning loss—if students don’t use and reinforce the skills learned throughout the school year, they will lose them. Even in a technological era, many students are unmotivated to learn during the summer. Furthermore, many do not have access to quality educational sources. Share with us the resources and techniques you have found successful for keeping students learning throughout the summer!
You certainly raise a valid point. Even with technology, students lose interest in learning and think summer is the time to turn off the brain power. The wonderful resources in Illuminations offer loads of activities for students to increase their brain power during the summer. Probably my favorite math resource is Calculation Nation. I can lose hours competing against the computer in neXtu, the tessellation game.
I suggest reading a Community Hub discussion--As a teacher, how do you inspire your students to learn more over the summer?--for some great ideas from other Community members.
Tech & Learning posted a blog Top 50 Math Sites and Apps by David Kapuler (July 12, 2013) describing sites and apps for learning math. With mobile learning becoming popular with students, I recommend sharing some of these sites/apps to motivate students to continue improving their math skills during the summer months.
