I was reading this week on eSchool News about a website similar to Groupon called Schoola for school fundraising. It got me to reflect on all the different opportunities our school provides and was wondering what others are doing that they find most effective? Our PTA does one main one each year which is simply a fund and each family is asked to donate $40 for the year to cover all of the PTA activities. It is quite a good fundraiser and it eliminates the need to sell anything. We still have events that raise money for the school but this one covers the main financing for the year. Just curious, what are your most effective fundraising activities?
While I was the yearbook and newspaper advisor at a high school, we needed ways to raise money for supplies. Our school budget was not sufficient to cover all of our expenses. We signed up at EcoPhones, a website that pays for used electronics and jewelry (even non-working items). Your organization can receive money for recycling cell phones, laptops, ink catridges, digital cameras, video cameras, MP3 players, gold, silver, platinum, and so much more. The online site even pays the shipping costs to send the recycled items to Ecophones. "IT PAYS TO RECYCLE."
This was a wonderful project for my students because they were protecting the environment and raising extra funds for the school publications at no charge to the school. They also encouraged the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) to help support their collection efforts. The project involved the whole school community for the good of the yearbook and newspaper.
I strongly suggest considering Ecophones as a FREE fundraiser.
