With the arts often taking a backseat to subjects like English, mathematics, social studies, and science, how important is it to integrate the arts into the school curricula?

One of the Community members, cmuller, suggests reading an article by Mariko Nobori--How the Arts Unlock the Door to Learning--published in Edutopia that states: "Arts integration goes beyond including art projects in class; it is a teaching strategy that seamlessly merges arts standards with core curricula to build connections and provide engaging context."

Nokobi contends that "Arts integration uses teaching practices that have been shown in brain-based research to improve comprehension and long-term retention."

What do you think of arts integration as a way for students to embrace their learning, retain their knowledge, and increase their academic achievement?
