Geography Awareness Week isn't just for Geography classrooms; the geographic perspective can be applied to any subject!
And outside of the classroom, this year's theme, "Declare Your Interdependence," can be related to the most basic, every-day tasks:
When you get dressed in the morning, take a second look at your clothes. Where were they made? Where did the raw materials come from, and how much energy was used to transport them from factory to factory and then to the store where you bought them?
When you write with a pencil, think about resources. When you use a GPS, think about satellites, remote sensing, and other global positioning technology. When you drive a car, take a bus, train, plane, or boat, think about your route; why is the road or railroad track where it is, and could different planning have shortened your route?
