Greetings all and welcome or welcome back to the new year with the Grant .
I am posting the 1st six weeks required response topic early so that you can accomplish this one at the opening institute and get into the habit of responding.
Last year we stated with a discussion of the nooks. Since everyone is burning away the hours on the ipad's let's talk about the ipad's...officially and for credit. Here is the discussion topic.
Discuss our usage of the ipad so far. Specifically, if you have any interesting uses, apps, or how to's that you think others might benefit from, please share them. Also feel free to use this topic as a medium to ask ipad related questions of the combined knowledge-base of the group.
Good luck and happy posting.
p.s. Don't forget, this is a discussion...so you can post more than once and are encouraged to reply to each other and comment (politely) on the ideas of others.
p.p.s. Lastly, remember I will be monitoring and reading all of your posts, but usually don't comment much as I instead focus on my role as moderator. If you need specific feedback from me, please use ALL CAPS with my name (RICH is fine) and overtly state you need feedback or a reply (e.g., RICH I NEED A RESPONSE ON THIS), then state your question or comment. Thanks again.
I love my ipad, first and foremost. I am newbie but I love that I have accesss to work, play, and home all in one. I am not juggling different "tools" to multitask. For example, this post. I can reply on the go, rather than waiting until I get to a computer( home or school). I love all the apps, which I have organized into genres of education, social, and productivity. Here is my question, can you message another iPad?
My iPad is my new best friend! I see myself using it all of the time in the classroom. I love the new CSCOPE layout. I see me using my iPad to keep up with the lessons instead of printing them out. I also will use it to project lessons I have created in educreations as well as Teaching Table. I am really going to try to have the students use the iPads in our school at least once a week. (More if I can get to them.) I plan on not only using some of the apps, but also having students create projects and presentations with them. I have so many favorites, I can't name them all right now. My department is currently beta testers for an app called Teaching Table that we were introduced to at ME by the Sea. It is a really cool app that lets you create lessons for the students on the iPad using virtual manipulatives. It is not available to the public yet, but they are anticipating a September release date. It is going to be an awesome teaching tool! Happy teching!
Now that I have a "smart" board, not really, but a mimio thingee, I can use my iPad along with the mimio software on my computer and the splash top white board to walk around the classroom and let the kids "write" on the the cscope document I have pulled up on my computer. I have had an old iPad, but the camera is going to be a great added feature with the iPad 2. It will make responding to these questions in a more timely matter easier also, which is a good thing. I don't like getting in trouble!
Hope everyone enjoys their year and their iPad as much as I plan to!
I am excited about my Ipad. I can't wait to tell my colleagues about how awesome the TRCEMT is. I will have to talk to the tech dept. but I will definitely use the IPad in my classroom. I have downloaded several apps to use. I know my students will be excited.
I wish everyone a great year for 2012-13.
When given the chance to use my iPad, ( my daughter kind of took over it and added her apps for school and home) I will be using it in my classroom in small group setting, whole group, and tutorial. I love the flexibility of the wire free. I will be using it to show my lesson, pictures, or anything of interest to my students on my smart board. I just wanted to say thank you Christine Robson for inviting me to the TRCEMT and hope to have a great 2012-2013 school year.
I am supppper duper excited about my new technology..the AMAZIN iPad!! There are so many things I can do with my students & it will be mince to see technology in the classroom. We are living in a world where technology is moving so fast that we can't catch up. As soon as I am comfortable & a pro @ my new tool...something new comes out! Bring it on new school year
I am so excited about this workshop and my new IPad. Thank you very very much Christine Robson for all of your hard work. I am very excited about this new school year. My family was so intrigued with all the apps and the books we downloaded. Hopefully they will not want to monopolize my Ipad.
My husband cannot believe I have something else and wants to know how I am keeping up with all the electronics and where everything is. I absolutely love this iPad and my teachers friends are all jealous. I have downloaded so many apps I do not know what I have... I also have a smart board in my class so this is going to a fun year...
I am so excited about the opportunity to be a part of this group! I have learned so much from the participants. I downloaded the first app that I $paid$ for today so I can use my mimio to display the iPad. I LOVE THIS IPAD!!! I can't wait to use this new technology in my classroom.
Hi Carlos! wat I did to make purchasing easier is but an iTunes card at Walmart or wherever they sell them. There will be a code on the card upon just enter that code in the iTunes app n ur ready to go. Hope this helps. O by the way the iTunes card itself will have directions on how to get going as well!
I love using my IPad! I have downloaded different apps and books that I can use in my classroom. I will have to go through them to see which ones will benefit my students and which ones I can get rid of. I can't wait to use it in the classroom and share with the other teachers in my grade level. Good luck to everyone this school year!
I, too, am thoroughly EXCITED about my new toy...I mean "tool". THANK YOU Christine for pushing for us to get our iPads on the first day of our opening institute. This tool is amazing and I feel confident that all participants will utilize these tools to benefit our students, as well as ourselves, as we use all available apps for the subjects we teach.
I am very excited! Although I had an iPad last year, I had no clue how to use it effectively in a classroom. Now I feel so much more comfortable with my iPad. I have learned of so many cool apps and I can't wait to find ways to implement some of them in my classroom. Love it!
I like the ability to download quickly without having to go through our IT guy. I have learned so much on how to use it this week. Thank you to all that helped this technological idiot learn. I hope to use the iPad daily in each of my subjects taught. it will be especially helpful for the tutoring class I wil have.
rich, thanks for making sure everyone was on the same page and waiting for those of us who are slower to pick this up- the mark of a great teacher.
I love the IPad--loved the NOOK, but this is so much more versatile. I have a smartboard, and am planning to use the IPad in conjunction with it. Oh, how I wish I had more than just one--may have to talk to the grant-writing department!!! Inservice starts for me tomorrow with some technology training. Can't wait to take the IPad in and get with the computer tech guy. I tried out the Educreation site on Friday, and created something. When I got the Smartboard several years ago, they loaded the software in my personal laptop so I could do stuff at home. Unfortunately, that laptop died, and I haven't been able to get the software back in. Hopefully, this link just might help me bridge that gap. Thank you, thank you, Christine. Thank you, Holli, for being so patient in instructing us on all the perks. You are both angels!
I absolutely love my ipad! I have had so much fun exploring and playing with all the apps! I can't wait to use it with my students this year! We received ipad carts at the end of last year, but I never bothered checking them out because I had no idea how to use them with my students. Now I feel much more comfortable using them and cannot wait to do lessons with them! I hope everyone has a great school year!
I love the Ipad. I unfortunately haven't had the opportunity to use it in the classroom. The school district I work for bought every grade an Ipad two years ago and it was the favorite center in my Pre-K classroom. Now that I am in 3rd grade and we follow CSCOPE, I am not sure when I would be able to include it. Any tips or suggestions from educators who use CSCOPE would be greatly appreciated!
I am loving my iPad. It is so handy. I have used a few apps with my students. i have saved the current CScope lesson and unit test in iBooks and can access the lesson from home as I plan.
I can pull it up quicker than finding my paper copies! I am looking forward to my school installing wireless in my classroom this month!
Thank you Christine for your work in getting the iPad (and Nook) for us!
I totally love the ipad... i just wish that my school would buy us some to use in the classroom. Students know so much about technology, that I am sure they could teach me a few things on the ipad... I plan to save the Cscope lessons to my ibooks... for easier use... thank you
I don't know what happened, but I will reply again. I want to utilize the iPad more as soon as my district becomes wifi savvy. I love that my students have this option of learning. Technology is where we are headed and we need to be up to date as much as possible. Again, I look forward to working with the iPad as much as possible.
I know I replied back in July, but for some reason it did not post. Some how I turned off the notification by emaL and couldn't remember how to turn it back on. I am definitely technology challenged!!!
But I love the ipad and am learning new stuff all the time. I down loaded my instructor and participant manuals for red cross lifeguard training and CPR training. It was really nice not carrying all of these manuals into the Junior High when we were teaching theses classes in August.
I am still not sure how to implement the ipad in lessons, but find it really useful in planning. I admit I am often overwhelmed by the ipad and resort to the computer.
I am extremely excited about my new IPAD. I am still all new to this technology stuff so it has taken me awhile to get used to all of it. I have downloaded a few APPS that I have been using in the classroom that the students absolutely love. I have also learned a lot about the IPAD from my students. So I don't know who is learning from who here, but we are all working together to create a technology driven classroom!!!
I've made progress in using the iPad on a personal basis; however, my school has yet to buy a set for classroom use, so incorporating it into regular use is somewhat limited. I did use it in my math skills class, one student at a time, practicing math facts using Flash to Pass. They loved it. Even though my building had wifi installed some time around Christmas and even though the administration talked about using such technology, they would not give out the login password. Finally, by mid-second semester, they talked about using more iPad technology, they still had not figured out the security issues, so by the end of the year, we finally heard that we were going to implement it--next year. One of the problems that arises is that some of the apps that I have won't pass security at school, so I have to go through the tech department and convince them that it's safe and worthwhile.
I still have much to learn. I got off to a slow start in the beginning because my internet service wasn't working well, and they recommended getting a new router, which I did; however, that caused password problems even though tech support walked me through it. My son, the computer expert, finally worked it out for me, so I didn't have to go to McDonald's to catch a wifi access. I vow to get better this summer. I went to the NCTM conference in Denver and went to a session on math apps--looks like some wonderful stuff that I have yet to download and try out. Best part is that they are free!
