Was the Declaration of Independence the original abolitionist document?

In a new book on the subject of the significance of the Declaration in American history, the author makes a provocative assertion: that the most important source of anti slavery arguments in the antebellum period was the statement of principles of natural justice found in the Declaration!!!

Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln make this argument. Douglass made the argument in his most famous speech What to the Slave is the 4th of July?

Lincoln called the Declaration the "apples of Gold" in the Constitution's "frames of silver".
