Parents: This question is for YOU. If and when you have free time (yes, there is such a thing, although it can be hard to come by!), how do you spend it? What types of things do you like to do?
I have an extremely long commute and I coach my son's jr. high soccer team, so free time is nearly nonexistent for me right now. However, when I do have a few moments, I like to read or spend time playing with my daughters (since my son gets more of my time at the soccer fields and going to/from practice).
What do you do? Do you enjoy hobbies? Do you have favorite activities that you enjoy with your children?
I'd love to hear about what others do with those precious few spare minutes!
This summer while I have been away from my teaching job, I have enjoyed every moment with my two boys. We have lounged on the couch together in the mornings, played lots of Rumikub, and spent time in the kitchen cooking simple dishes together. My husband (who also teaches) and I have found time for a few motorcycle rides, as well.
Thanks for asking this question...it gave me the chance to reflect on things I've enjoyed for the past few weeks. I return to work on Monday.
That sounds like a fun summer. I enjoy coming up with new recipes to try out with my daughters from time to time. Sounds like you made some great memories that I'm sure your boys will remember when they have kids of their own!
P.S. I hope your return to school is full of fun and WONDER for your students. :-)
What about sharing classic TV shows with your children such as I Love Lucy, Robotech, The Twilight Zone , MacGyver, or Quantum Leap? Check out the blog 13 Classic TV Shows to Stream with Your Kids suggested by Common Sense Media (July 23, 2013).
If you watch any of these with your children, please share your experience and their reactions. Have fun!
Let's see...I also feel like in my free time I am spending time with my family. A couple of times a week we (4 kids, my husband and I) make a bed in front of the TV and watch a movie together. I usually fall asleep about 45 minutes into it but I still love to cuddle with my family. We also do a lot of traveling and enjoy exploring new places.
Since 2006 I have traveled the state of Florida during the summer presenting technology workshops to educators. Time involved varied from one week to six. I did not participate this year and found time to just enjoy being home. The house looks nice with a fresh coat of paint, and I am trying to sort through 39 years worth of education memories!
