Tell us about the myriad ways you use maps to teach geography, history, civics, math, or any other topic in the classroom. Share your most effective, innovative, and unexpected applications of maps and mapping techniques!
We use maps ALL the time in our class and find it can be integrated with all of the subjects. When we did our National Park Storyline, we had students create a map from California from scratch and they created their own "families" that we tracked along to all the different national parks in California, with events and decisions to be made along the way. We also *love* using Google Maps and Google Earth to view data from organizations like NOAA and to create our own maps, like using "Math Maps" to find shapes and angles in our neighborhood, and tracking the Island Fox in the Channel Islands with the remote collar that we helped fund to purchase for Lucky, one of the endangered species. Huge thanks to Nat Geo for helping provide great mapping resources, and hope to hear more from educators!
