I was able to search and find many literacy learning objects through Read, Write, Think. There are many interactive graphic organizers that students can use to map their thinking. I specifically like Flip Book, Stapleless Book and the Printing Press. I am excited to try these with my students!

Go through the interactive activity as a whole class while students are divided int 3 or 6 small groups. Model creating arguments for each answer choice as part of a whole group for the first question. For each of the remaining questions, assign each small group of students an answer choice to create an argument for. Students must also develop arguments discounting the other choices.
Before selecting each answer, take a class vote to decide on the final answer choice. At this point, make sure to go over the information each question gives you.
Flip a Chip
The Flip-a-Chip activity turns ordinary poker chips into a teaching tool, showing students how different affixes and roots can be joined to make words and then placed into a context-rich paragraph. Each set of chips contains two word roots and two affixes that can be combined into four different words. For example, the prefixes im- and sup- might be written on the two sides of one poker chip, and the roots pose and press on the other chip. The four possible words (impose, impress, suppose, suppress) are inserted into four blanks in a paragraph according to context clues. After practicing with both real and "virtual" chips (in the Flip-a-Chip online interactive), students work in pairs to create their own set of chips and corresponding paragraph. They exchange their packets to see whether the context clues are strong enough to enable classmates to fill in the blanks correctly.

I am looking at this for a 3rd grade lesson to increase reading fluency. All poetry has a certain "cadence" or "rhythm" to it. The conic section explorer found at NCTM's illuminations is a highly useful tool for helping students visualize the origins of the basic conic section graphs upon the Cartesian (xy) plane.

Description: High School students will explore the journal that highlights the history of modern dance by focusing on Martha Graham's dances. They can read about four of her dances, watch clips, and even see the difficulties that a dancer goes through in learning the dances. After exploring the journals students will find additional reputable online sites to expand their knowledge of modern dance, respond to journal questions related to modern dance, and then be responsible for writing/choreographing their own modern dance.

This lesson could be used for a variety of purposes. It would work very well in a finacial literacy unit when looking at loans and bank accounts. It would also be a good introduction to compund-continuous interest and exponential functions to gain student interest.
Common Core L 4.1 Form and use prepositional phrases.
Read "Under, Over, By the Clover:What is a Preposition?" through interactive writing have students identify, write and model prepositions that were in the book. After teacher explains what prepositions are. Once interactive writing is done, explain stations 1. form sentence with tiles. Then write and illustrate sentence. Student will highlight preposition. 2. using animals to model preposition word that is chosen from pile. 3. Read Rosie's walk and use flannel board to reinact story using preposition words. 4. Have students on computer using ReadWriteTHink use magnetic tiles to create poem using prepositions on word mover. Once poem is done. Students will print it out, illustrate it and highlight the prepositions. There will be timed limits and expectations for the class. Modifications can include a modification of activities or one on one assistance on activities, peer assistance, help at computers. I expect students to be able to independently identify prepositions in various ways.

Students will use this to have a complex character developed through specific questions. They then get to print the "trading card" and use it to write a story with a character that can be complex. This is also very easy to differentiate with this tool depending on the levels of the students and what needs to be accomplished.
7th Grade Science
