picturebook_225.jpgEncourage a love of reading during November, Picture Book Month. This international literacy initiative honors the artwork and storytelling found in print picture books that capture the imagination of readers young and old. Celebrate by introducing your students to some of the winners of the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. Every year, AAAS honors the best in science writing and illustration for children and young people through this prize. One of the categories reflects elite picture books in the sciences. Check out the lessons, podcasts, and videos we have developed to help bring these books into the STEM classroom. Explore topics such as photosynthesis in the ocean, birds living in old growth forests, and the concept of animal camouflage.

SB&F just announced the finalists for the 2014 Prize! Check out the contenders in the picture book category and the rest of the short list for great science reading.
