feethands_225.jpgDid you know that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime? Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United State and according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, over the past three decades, more people have contracted skin cancer than all other cancers combined. May is set aside to highlight the growing problem and the first Monday of the month is designated Melanoma Monday.

Explore the science behind our largest organ and teach kids how to properly care for it with the Skin Deep Project. With funding from Neutrogena, we created resources including SCI:Skin Cancer Investigation, an interactive focused on the science behind skin cancer. Your class can join the Skin Cancer Investigation team and learn about the sun's harmful effects on healthy skin and how to identify the three types of skin cancer. Get an introduction to the basic structure of skin, learn about factors that control variation in human skin color, discuss misconceptions about acne, and look at the relationship bacteria has with our skin.

How do you discuss sun safety with your class?
