Our daycare recently lost their pet hamster and many of the kids saw the decline in the health of the pet - we were asked to do
a program on loss and/or separation:
Craft is a kissing hand - kids will trace their hand on a square piece of paper, color it in and add their heart in the middle - craft will conclude with folding the secret message.
There are all kinds of amazing extensions available for this wonderful picture book :
Follow up - program went well - it was interesting to see boys seemed more engaged - kissing starts to get the "yuck" response. One of the boys brought up this book to read after they found it on the shelf.
A Kiss like This by Mary Murphy
Going to kindergarten is striking a chord with the girls in the class - one girl is not happy at all about leaving the daycare. First time, I really got a feel for defiance from a four-year old in the day care (they are remarkably well-controlled)- and not a pretty sight. The regular teacher was not in the class today so that may have inspired the bad behavior.
