Tomorrow marks the third week of our Summer Reading Club:
For preschoolers, we will read books about Independence Day celebrations -
Celebrate Independence Day by Deborah Heiligman highlights keywords like
parade, picnic, tradition, speeches, fireworks, freedom and is good for all age levels.
Preschool kids will craft a five-stared flag. We used white and yellow stars in the craft example.
(concepts - top, middle, left, right, center - stripes are adhered first to top and bottom, then middle|center.
blue adhered to left side of flag- kids then space out the stars).
For older kids and adults - we are creating memory books.
There are several variations and folds that we will explore:
We will also explore some images from the Picturing America collection - and have a prize give away.
Sung to: "Mary Had a Little Lamb"
Fireworks go snap, snap, snap!
Crack, crack, crack! Zap, zap, zap!
Fireworks make me clap, clap, clap
On Independence Day!
Stripes and strips and little stars, (wave arm like a flag)
Oh, how beautiful you are!
Red and white and blue, it's true,
Proudly waving for me and you.
Sung to: "Happy Birthday"
Oh, red, white and blue,
We honor you.
You have red and white stripes,
And fifty stars, too.
