Launched in 1986 to improve reading skills among kindergarten through 2nd grade Latino students, Young Readers (YR) is a highly interactive and family-oriented program designed to instill a love of reading. Since its inception, LNESC has worked with educators and the Educational Development Center—an internationally known education non-profit—to develop and continuously update the curriculum to meet the needs of students. As the Latino population grows, the YR after-school program has continued to increase its impact on low literacy levels among Latino children. The program is funded by Target and P&G with the support of Verizon and currently serves students in 17 major cities nationwide.
The purpose of this group is to connect YR Staff. Using the features of this group, teachers will be able to share and organize resources, participate in discussions, collaborate with other teachers across the nation, create and participate in polls, and blog about the progress of their students.
