As you enjoy your family and friends this holiday break, take a moment or two to reflect on the school year thus far. When making your New Year’s resolutions for 2014, why not try one that would make a difference in your class? Perhaps make a commitment to integrate technology into your curriculum, projects, or homework assignments.
Choose one new app or one resource that perhaps you have heard of but haven’t had a chance to check out for yourself. To help you reach your goal, I will post resources in and around the Community. Check our Mobile Learning, I Teach and Everything Google groups for suggestions and ideas.
Many wonderful lessons and student interactives are available within the Thinkfinity Community and with our content partners. New posts appear daily and there’s something for everyone. Here's a sample of what you will find:
- Searching for Solomon Northup in "Chronicling America"
- Reach Beyond the Black History You Already Teach!
- Examining the Legacy of the American Civil Rights Era
Web based educational tools, like instaGrok, which searches for educational content across the web and filters it by degree of difficulty, are being used to a greater extent in the classroom. This tool is also good to use for finding materials for lesson plans and a great tool for student research work. Take a look at this brochure for more information.
Remember that taking your time and moving forward slowly is sometimes the best move. It will give you time to use the educational tools you discover and try them with a small group of students before using it with all.
